Treatise by Mr Louis Petit, member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, in which “the apparatuses and machines that are conducive to healing” are represented. The work, translated from French, is enriched by a historical and critical discourse by the author. Illustrating the text are a series of copper-engraved figures depicting instruments for reducing dislocations, fractures and injuries. Jean-Louis Petit (1674-1750), famous French surgeon, researcher, lecturer and excellent operator, is to be considered among the most illustrious of his time. In 1731, he became director of the Royal Academy of Surgery.
