A late 18th century posthumous edition in the original language of the famous masterpiece by Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778), a leading intellectual of the Age of Enlightenment. It is an original work that fuses narrative and philosophical and pedagogical reflection, starting from the paradigm of the “goodness of the original nature” of man, corrupted by the superstructures of society. Divided into five books, it covers the five crucial stages of the education of young Emile, followed by a tutor played by Rousseau himself. Three are the “masters”, nature, men and things: nature provides for the development of our organs and faculties, men for the use we make of them, things for the acquisition of experience and objects. In order to be able to take full part in the society in which he lives, the young person must harmoniously indulge his three masters. Natural education is imparted in direct contact with nature, where the environment invigorates body and soul, and society cannot exert its corrupting influence.
