Historical work divided into two tomes in which the excesses of the Holy Inquisition are tried. The Tribunal of the Inquisition was the ordinary instrument used for centuries by the Church to combat heresies, infamous for its repressive violence. Gregorio Leti (1630-1701), one of the most interesting figures of Italian libertinism, adventurer and polygraph, the trademark of his work was the sarcastic criticism of the Church and all forms of censorship and regimentation. For decades, Leti's historical and scandalistic work would be the hotbed of news for the use and consumption of European educated society. Leti held posts all over Europe, banished everywhere, both in Catholic and Protestant countries.
